Peter Lindbergh Untold stories

I saw Peter Lindbergh working once. Early one morning in Paris, I was out for my morning walk which took me over the foot bridge crossing the Seine. He was there with a crew of 10 or 15 people, 2 models. They’d built an elevated deck to avoid the crappy handrails and had their own custom ones erected, the models played out that timeless story, returning home from a late night, his bow tie undone, she with her high heels in hand. I watched for a while, a masterclass of sorts. In the time I was there he must have shot thousands of frames, looking for that elusive moment of authenticity and beauty.

The ‘untold stories' photographic exhibition by Peter Lindbergh. Wonderful cinematic black and white images, fantastic quality prints, everything about the exhibition is premium. Even the framing is beautifully done.

The images are engaging, big and beautiful. There is also a wonderful ‘testament’ to Lindbergh on the top floor, with a series of self portraits and a video installation. All showing the gaze of the man that created these wonderful images.

The whole exhibition is a masterclass of how to do things well. I loved it.

My one concern is that thing that gets tossed around these days, how ‘relevant’ it is to our lives. All the women are beautiful, the men handsome, the cost of putting these images together would have been astronomical.

Is it just expensive wall paper ?

To me, no, I love being surrounded by beauty, whether its nature or a Lindbergh exhibition.
